Eye Exams
Regular eye exams are an invaluable tool in maintaining your eyes' health by detecting and preventing disease. Some diseases develop slowly without causing pain or vision loss. Early detection of any problems can reduce the risk of further harm and allow for a choice of treatment options.

Contact Lenses
Over 30 million Americans wear contact lenses. Unlike glasses, contact lenses move with your eyes so you can enjoy a larger field of vision with fewer distortions. You also don't have to deal with frames hovering in your peripheral vision or external lenses that fog up on cold days or get wet in the rain.
There are many different kinds of contacts, including rigid and flexible, extended wear, disposable and planned replacement lenses. Some can be made as bifocals or in different colors. After a thorough eye exam and consultation with an experienced physician at SJEYE, patients who qualify for contact lenses can discuss which type is right for them. All contact lenses require special care and cleaning. You'll need to make regular follow-up visits to ensure your eyes remain healthy.

Dry Eye Clinic
Dry Eye Syndrome is a very common cause of eye discomfort. Dry Eye occurs when you do not have enough tears or the correct composition of tears to lubricate the front of the eyes.
At SJEYE, we conduct a specialized clinic to treat and evaluate Dry Eye Syndrome. Using special tests, we examine the amount and quality of the tears you make. Our ophthalmologists review the influence of any medications you take or health issues you have on the Dry Eye Syndrome.
We will prescribe a stepwise approach to treating Dry Eye. The first line of treatment is usually artificial tear solutions and ointments. Any contributing eyelid disease will be treated.
For more severe cases of Dry Eye in which the surface of the eye is inflamed, anti-inflammatory agents are sometimes prescribed. For some forms of Dry Eye, tiny plugs can keep tears on the eye’s surface by slowing the rate of drainage from the eye.
If you think that you or a loved one has Dry Eye Syndrome, please schedule an appointment to see one of our physicians about our new approach to Dry Eye.

Low Vision Clinic
The goal of the Low Vision Clinic at SJEYE is to help you make the most of your remaining vision. The clinic is directed by Dr. Arthur Siegel, an optometrist with many years of experience in helping Low Vision patients.
Low Vision is an impairment in sight that cannot be corrected by glasses, surgery or medication. The most common cause of Low Vision is macular degeneration, an age-related disease that affects the central part of your sight. Other common causes include glaucoma, cataracts and diabetes.
Low Vision affects every person differently. In the initial examination, Dr. Siegel will evaluate your specific abilities and limitations, and suggest solutions. On follow up examinations, you will be shown visual aids and techniques to assist you in your daily activities. Special magnifier glasses, telescopes, better lighting, and video technology may be used to improve your abilities.
If you or your loved ones are struggling with Low Vision, please call to arrange a consultation with our Low Vision Clinic.
